This is a portrait of Tom Waits for a mock Rolling Stone assignment. I just finished it today. It's pretty straight forward, but I'm fairly happy with the way it turned out.

The Spring Instillation at Art Center:

I was able to show some fairly recent work for this instillation, and was lucky to get a large wall to show off my sculptural work! I'm really happy with the way it turned out, even though I worked on it through the night until 8am. The sunrise and deer frolicking just outside the window was enough to give me energy.

Spacecraft Gallery Sticker Sheet:
Last year I was selected to do an image for Spacecraft's annual gallery sticker sheet. Spacecraft is a Seattle based snowboard/clothing/sticker company that puts out this sticker sheet to promote artists along with their brand. They give out this limited edition sheet as promotional gifts at their parties, and can be found in various magazines. They are really rad, artist friendly people over there, and although they didn't pay because it's a promo piece for the artist, they gave out a lot of freebies. This sheet came out late 2007.

Fashion illustration?
This was an assignment to take contemporary fashions and re-interpret them in my own way. I decided to approach the assignment as a scientist or biologist, by dissecting and analyzing the various forms in a garment. I picked designers like Benjamin Cho, Giles Deacon, and Alexander Mcqueen who's lines are inspired by nature and natural forms. I like the idea of not being able to distinguish between what is natural and what is man made.

My poster for The Aquarium of the Pacific:

In the past, I never considered how my fish got to my dinner plate. I just knew that it tasted good. Recently though I have learned about fishing practices that are harmful to the ocean wildlife and its habitat. Large industrial ships deploy long lines, which can extend 80 miles out to sea and use thousands of baited hooks. These long lines not only catch the desired fish but also catch undesired animals such as turtles, birds, seals, and dolphins, which are tossed back into the sea as garbage, or “bycatch.” Trawling, which involves raking large nets along the sea floor, not only catches everything, but also destroys the habitat. Where there once was abundant life, trawling leaves the sea floor bald and leveled, an effect that is similar to the destruction of rainforests on land. After educating myself about these fishing practices, I can now eat fish that have been caught using more environmentally friendly methods. I hope that this poster will help to inform and introduce this issue to seafood consumers in hopes of curbing the destruction of our ocean.

Jesus Canceled My Art Show

The owner of this new gallery received and email and voice mail from a scheduled artist wanting to cancel his art show because he decided to give up art. He could no longer create art because he wanted to dedicate his life to Jesus Christ. Pretty weird! The solution was to fill the month slot by asking a group of artists to create work about this subject.
