Here's today's NYT letters piece on health care reform and abortion. This sensitive subject can be quite a challenge...no pregnant bellies, fetuses, wombs...so I had to come up with something to represent the woman's health side.

here are a couple sketches. The editors requested I get rid of the oval because it looked too much like a womb.

Also congrats to Aviva Michaelov on her new position at the Op-Ed, and good luck to Leanne Shapton on the next stage of her career. They are both great to work with!

Here's my sketch and final illo from today's New York Times letters page, which is about how to finance food aid for the needy. You can read the letters here. They lightened up the image from the original, which looking at it now was a good idea since the newspaper always prints a little darker.

Tonight was the opening for True Self, if you missed it like me (stuck in LA), you can check out the show online (which is still being added), or stop by Jonathan LeVine gallery Tues-Sat 11-6 through Nov 21st.
Here is my contribution to the show, and the journey the painting took as I worked on it...as you can see I changed my mind a few times. I hope I made good decisions.

I have two illustrations in today's NYT book review. One on the cover and one inside. I am really happy with the way they turned out, I might even use that cover illo for a promo! Much thanks to amazing AD Nicholas Blechman.

Here's my third book for the altered book show in Vegas. Don't forget to stop by and check it out! This book is a little different, and I wanted to keep a lot of white space. I like the raw, unfinished quality it seems to have, and the weird tension that creates.

Here's my second book for the altered book show, all inside the pages of this civil war book. I love experimenting in these books, lots of good mistakes and new ideas.

I'm in an altered book show which opens this Friday at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center in Las Vegas. This is really weird because I used to take art and music lessons at this place when I was a kid, and actually performed a few times in their theater. This looks like an amazing show, so if your in Vegas between now an January, you should check it out!

I have three books in this show. This is an older one that you may have seen already. I'll post the others in the next few days.
